The 9.0 and 9.4 changes
As of March 21, 2008, all guards shipped will have this update added. Everything shipping from this point on will have this included. I have only had very few guards failed, but I like to design the possibility of failure out when I can. Most of the upgrades have been minor and easy. This one is no exception. I simply added another rod to the front of all guards. This will include the Whale covers, but they will not carry a version mumber like the Shark Guards do.
This extra rod and two screws adds quite a bit of strength to this front shield area. It also moves the screws further into the side material away from the edge. Luckily it doesn't really interfere with visibility either. It is positioned in just about the same line of sight as the lower rod.
Polycarbonate is some pretty strong and impact resistant material, but a hit just so, will cause it to snap. These parts are 3/16" thick, but at 3/8" thick, this stuff is near bullet proof.
Below are some photo's of the fix as well as some of the guards that have failed. These were all replaced and no one was hurt badly. It shows just what kind of force your saw blade can have with small off cuts. I am certain that any factory guard would have been damaged as well. Some few factory guards are polycarbonate, but most are cast acrylic. Far less impact resistant.
These parts are available to those that wish to upgrade. I would ship you another rod and 2 screws. You would have to drill a couple holes in the ends of the rod and shave it to slip into place. Then mark and drill the outer holes. Clamp the rod in place and then run the two screws into place.
These would take a lot of the pressure off of the single lower rod and it's screws. I do recommend this upgrade. The cost is $5 which just covers shipping.

This is for a clear rod and two screws to update any Shark Guard for extra strength.
Just email me and let me know the color and size of rod you need. To the 1/16" is good, 1/32" is better.
