I now have a splitter design that will accept the pawls without using a clamp for those not wanting the guard part. They are still easily removable. Here is a link to the splitter and riving knife page.

The first photo is the newer version of the pawls. The new ones are black podercoated just like the splitters. The pawl design has changed from this design seen in the rest of the photo's. The mounting is the same though.

These are anti-kickback pawls for the Shark Guard. I feel these are not needed on the Ryobi versions of the Shark. These may benefit all other versions that I make though. They are an added measure of protection and are required by OSHA in Job sites and come as OEM equipment on US saws. Most guys defeat the factory pawls in such a way that they cannot be reattached. If certain cuts require not having pawls, the Shark pawls can easily accomodate that and then be reinstalled. The Ryobi has a true riving knife and therefore has the ability to travel with the blade. This gives it the ability to use the clamp as a quasi hold down. This and the riving knife would possibly render the pawls as a redundant safety item. These will however, fit the Ryobi's as well.

These Shark Guards are completely handmade. Therefore there is an additional cost for the pawls. They do take extra time and materials to produce. These will add an additional $7 to each shark package. If bought by themselves as an add-on, they will cost $11 including Priority mail shipping. These will ONLY fit the 6.0 clamps and later. If the sides of your clamp is 3/4 in. then these won't work for you.

These pawls are not spring loaded. They work using gravity to keep them in place. If the splitters that come with the Shark Guard are used properly, these should never have to engage during use. They will engage if needed though. I feel that they will mostly just be hanging out around your Shark Guard, just in case. As with a lot of safety devices, they aren't needed all the time, but you never know when you will need them and its nice to be where they are needed when they are needed.
