Parts for Shark Guard 1.0Here is a parts and supplies list with links. Some of this can be found locally at different places, but I live near the beach and we have a lot of sand locally, everything else has quite a bit of markup.
3/4" square x 1/8" thick aluminum tube---10" needed--- $1.68 per foot Online Metals I have also found a 3' section of this at Lowe's for about $11. 1 7/8" ID x 2" OD polycarbonate tubing--- 5" or 6" needed--- #43114---$2.01 per foot US Plastics-Polycarbonate Tubing These guys only sell this in 8' lengths. You may try to use some other material and use epoxy to cement the part to the polycarbonate. I have been using the thicker 1/8" stuff, but I think the thinner is a better choice. 12" x 24" x 3/16" thick = $10.10 #43049--- US Plastics-Polycarbonate cut sheet You may want to opt for the 2' x 2' section of this. There is a learning curve associated with this stuff. Solvent adhesive and tube type adhesive--- Tube = $6 #44629 Pint= $10.75 #43401--- US Plastics-Solvent and tube type adhesive. I use both types adhesive. I found it difficult to control the solvent type around the dust port. I use the tube type to seal this first on top and then weld it from the bottom with the solvent type. Bronze Bushings---4 each at $.43 each #6391K134--- McMaster/Carr These are what the guard actually ride on and are part of the clamp. 4 screws SS 1/4-20 x 2 1/2" Pan head # 91772A552 $5.76 per 25 pack--- McMaster/Carr These are for the clamp. You may find these easier locally, but this is a good price for 25. 4 Flat washers SS flat 1/4-20 #92141A029 $2.05 per hundred--- McMaster/Carr These are for the clamp. You may find these easier locally, but this is a good price for 100. Phenolic knobs---4 ea.---3 arm 1/4-20 through hole #57715K23---$.77 each--- McMaster/Carr These are for the clamp. These are the perfect knobs for this application. They don't get in the way or take up any excess space on the blade height if tightened correctly. These are cheaper if you buy 10 or more. Clear flex Hose----2" x 10'---$12.95--- Grizzly This is the hose that I sell 5' of for attaching the guards to a Dust collecting device. It is about $7 for shipping on this item. Router bits-Roundover---1/8" w/bearing---$12.95--- Grizzly This is used to roundover the edge of the shark guard while still glued to the template. You can get these other places too. Router bits-Straight bit---3/16" single fluted---$5.95--- Grizzly This is used for the dado and the rabbet on the side parts of the shark guard. You can get these other places too. Router bits-laminate trim bit---3/8" double fluted---$6.95--- Grizzly This is used to trim the polycarbonate flush with the template including the 2 slots. You can get these other places too. Solvent adhesive applicator syringe---#1106040---$5.20--- Craftics This is a must for applying the solvent adhesive. The Teflon needle works best because you can actually see the solvent when it starts to flow. Craftics charges a $10 minimum on shipping. I have tried some different ones from other suppliers, but did not like the results. If after seeing how much it costs to gather the material and tools needed to build 1 of these, check out how much I'm selling my already made shark guards. Back to Shark Guard plans
